- effectively put into words various topics in coherent and cohesive specialist and journalistic texts in accordance with the norms of standard Slovene, taking into account the principles of practical stylistics and rhetoric,
- provide advice to non-experts in connection with basic linguistic (normative, stylistic) issues,
- read a literary text in a literary reading style and demonstrate the ability to experience and understand literature in depth and in full for the needs of personal and public interpretation,
- put into words their impressions of a literary work they have read,
- demonstrate understanding of literary texts and their creation and effect (social, cultural, aesthetic, media and biographical aspects),
- analyse the phenomena and processes of literary culture in a historical context,
- demonstrate knowledge of Slovenia's literary heritage and its special features in relation to related European and world literary phenomena and processes,
- recognise the fundamental elements of literary work,
- "translate" simple older Slovene literary texts,
- read and present literary texts in a linguistically correct, logical and understandable, aesthetically and rhetorically effective manner,
- give advice to non-experts in connection with fundamental questions about literature,
- participate in the preparation and running of study circles and workshops,
- undertake promotion of cultural events.
In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, for a total of 60 credits; in order to progress to the third year students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the second year, for a total of 60 credits. In order to progress to the third year students must therefore have completed 120 credits.

Second-cycle master's study programmes (SQF level 8)
In order to complete the programme (a total of 180 credits in the two subjects), students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme and subject syllabuses and, in the final semester, write and successfully defend a bachelor's thesis in front of a mentor – who may be any of the teachers – and fellow students.
