• demonstrate in-depth understanding of the main schools of linguistics and their philosophical starting points and evaluate them critically, 
• autonomously research and describe linguistic phenomena in their systemic, social, psychological and historical associations,
• autonomously research and critically evaluate linguistic phenomena and processes through history and in their present-day social dimensions,
• research language as a medium and a result of symbolic interaction in its cognitive, emotional, creative and social functions,
• help shape the norms of standard language norm and critically evaluate their functioning, 
• keep abreast of developments in language policy and linguistic culture and help shape them in an informed manner,
• analyse in a technically adequate and autonomous manner and critically evaluate a spoken/written text from various points of view, 
• evaluate and justify the use and role of various linguistic devices in a text with regard to its position in a broader context, 
• select appropriate styles, domains, media and text types for a given register, 
• adjust/reformulate texts of one type for different registers (purpose, interlocutor, medium, etc.),

• put into words in the form of a coherent text their experience and understanding of a literary work at a profound level, together with analytical/synthetic findings,
• undertake autonomous research of literary texts of various types/genres and their creation and effect (social, cultural, aesthetic, media and biographical aspects),
• analyse and evaluate the phenomena and processes of literary culture in a historical context and help shape them in a constructive manner,
• recognise the fundamental and more subtle elements of literary work,
• "translate" more complex older Slovene literary texts,
• reflect on own knowledge of a text and adopt positions regarding issues of literary evaluation,
• give an effective public presentation of historical literary texts and written cultural monuments from the point of view of modern literary studies,
• read (aloud)/interpret and present literary texts in a linguistically correct, logical and understandable, aesthetically and rhetorically effective way,

• assess the structure and effect of the media in the literary system, 
• demonstrate knowledge of and plan the functioning of cultural institutions,
• demonstrate proficiency in journalistic, editorial, publishing and promotional cultural activities,
