  • a completed first-cycle programme in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory – two-subject programme; or
  • a completed single-subject undergraduate programme in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory (former study programme), where 60 credits will be recognised for graduates; or
  • a completed two-subject undergraduate programme in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory (former study programme), where 30 credits will be recognised for graduates; or
  • any other completed first-cycle higher education or pre-Bologna undergraduate programme in a related field, where depending on the field of the completed programme candidates must pass differential examinations in core comparative literature and literary theory subjects totalling 10–60 credits.

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of information technology,

  • write in Slovene for a specialist and non-specialist public,

  • demonstrate knowledge of the principles of historical and theoretical thinking,
  • place the subject of discussion in a comparative relationship with another subject as the basis of interdisciplinary discussion,
  • observe a problem and posit and defend a thesis in connection with the problem,
  • analyse and synthetically evaluate a problem in a broader context,
  • explain a proposed solution to the problem through dialogue,
  • use scholarly apparatus,
  • demonstrate a capacity for ethical self-reflection and a commitment to professional ethics,

  • demonstrate understanding of literature and its connection with other cultural activities and its role in European or world culture on the one hand and in Slovene culture on the other,
  • work with literary texts, for which literary general knowledge and a broad cultural horizon are necessary,
  • produce more demanding forms of literary or cultural journalism,
  • undertake more demanding editing work (publishing houses, newspapers, radio, television),
  • undertake dramaturgical work (theatre, radio), literary criticism and journalism,
  • lead creative writing workshops,
  • undertake work in literary studies itself or for the purpose of research.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress to the second year of the programme, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, for a total of 60 credits.

In order to complete the programme, students must complete in full all requirements laid down by the curriculum and individual syllabuses, for a total of 102 credits. In the final year of the programme students must write and successfully defend a master's thesis (18 credits).
