Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder will be able to: 
  • work in a Slovene-Japanese interlingual and intercultural environment,
  • demonstrate mastery of vocabulary, grammatical patterns and characters at approximately the level of the stage 2 standard examination in Japanese as a foreign language (Nihongo nouryoku siken 2 kyu) (i.e. use around 6,000 of the most common words, have passive knowledge of around 1,450 characters used to write these words and active knowledge of 1,200 characters),
  • use both syllabic forms of writing (hiragana and katakana),
  • demonstrate knowledge of and active proficiency in the fundamental principles of the use of Japanese in various social contexts at various levels of formality,
  • demonstrate understanding of texts on general social and popular science topics,
  • translate simple texts from Japanese into Slovene,
  • undertake simple interlingual mediation between Slovene and Japanese,
  • use ICT in connection with Japanese: computer processing of texts, internet and electronic dictionaries,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the basic characteristics of Japanese culture and the structure of Japanese society,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the basic characteristics of the Japanese language at all levels,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental principles of the use of the Japanese language in various social contexts,
  • communicate simple content in Japanese, both orally and in writing,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental historical and social determining factors that shape contemporary Japanese society,
  • demonstrate openness in contact with other cultures,
  • show critical understanding of own culture in the context of other cultures,
  • demonstrate awareness of the limits of their knowledge and, if necessary, supplement their knowledge independently.

Assesment and completion:
Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress to the next year, students must have completed 60 credits. A tolerance of up to 10% of credits per year will be permitted in exceptional circumstances. Course units not completed must becompleted before enrolment in the next year.
