  • demonstrate understanding of the fundamental methods and concepts of intercultural Germanic studies and their importance for the analysis of interlingual and intercultural contacts,
  • consider primary and secondary literature from the selected specialist field in an autonomous, in-depth, systematic and critical manner,
  • demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of language contact and knowledge of language contact between German and Slovene,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the EU's language policy and its realisation in Austria, Slovenia and Germany, and analyse examples of functional multilingualism,
  • demonstrate knowledge of fundamental concepts of cultural theory and literary theory and their importance in the sense of interculturalism,
  • demonstrate understanding of literary contacts between German- and Slovene-speaking areas and analyse translation activity between German and Slovene,
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the social functioning of literature (events, projects, literature in new media),
  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of literary production and reception in aesthetic, cultural-historical and intercultural contexts,
  • create coherent general communicative and useful texts in German,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the rules of effective oral communication in German,
  • demonstrate knowledge of culturally conditioned differences in professional communication in the German- and Slovene-speaking environments,
  • identify and critically evaluate the culturally specific contents of lexicographical texts,
  • demonstrate knowledge of new technologies and their application in planning and compiling dictionaries and comparable linguistic reference works,
  • communicate orally and in writing in Hungarian at the A1 level of the CEFR,
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of Hungarian history and culture,
  • recognise and demonstrate understanding of the systemic characteristics and functionality of Slovene dialects in written and spoken literary and media texts,
  • analyse and interpret forms of interculturalism in the literary works of contemporary Slovene authors within the wider Slovene literary environment.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed at least 42 credits from the study programme.
