Learning outcomes:

The certificate holder will be able to:

  • autonomously provide care interventions by life activities according to the nursing process method, in the care of adult patients, children and adolescents,
  • take part in diagnostic/therapeutic interventions following the instructions of a doctor or nurse,
  • provide care for adult patients, children and adolescents with different conditions according to the nursing process method,
  • administer first aid, emergency medical aid and basic resuscitation procedures until the arrival of a doctor,
  • use health care appliances and apparatus,
  • take active care of own health, patients' health and maintain a positive attitude towards healthy lifestyle,
  • recognise needs of patients and persons with special needs and rapidly adapt to conditions in the working process,
  • work in a group and communicate in writing and orally with co-workers, professionals, patients and family members using basic technical terminology,
  • act responsibly and ethically towards patients, family members, significant others and co-workers,
  • use modern IT, work with resources, data and materials,

Elective:

  • provide care to patients and/or persons with mental disorders with different conditions and at different stages of life in the performance of basic life activities,
  • carry out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and provide intensive care (immobile elderly persons, elderly persons with severe mental handicap or personality disorder, critically ill elderly persons and elderly persons completely dependent on healthcare and nursing personnel) by satisfying everyday needs, after major operations, in the case of complications following chemotherapy and radiation, in the case of deterioration of chronic illness and through action in unexpected situations,
  • provide care to the chronically ill and dying, tend to deceased patients and offer help and support to family members of chronically ill, dying and deceased patients,
  • provide first aid and emergency medical aid, conduct basic resuscitation procedures using state-of-the art rescue equipment,
  • process dentistry documentation, prepare premises, apparatus, instruments, materials, self, the patient and the therapist, and assist in health care procedures in dentistry before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Certificate holders supplement their key vocational knowledge and abilities with key general knowledge in line with national standards.
 

Assesment and completion:

Students' vocational abilities and skills and the fulfilment of conditions to obtain credits in accordance with the education programme are established through testing and assessment. Assessment also takes into account non-formally acquired knowledge, which must be adequately demonstrated. Students are assessed using scores from 5 (excellent) to 1 (inadequate).

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students must successfully (i.e. with positive scores) complete general education subjects, compulsory and elective vocational modules, and the open part of the curriculum. They must also complete extracurricular activities, practical on-the-job training and a vocational matura.

The vocational matura comprises a compulsory section (written and oral examination in Slovene and nursing care) and an elective section (written and oral examination in a foreign language or mathematics, and a service with an oral presentation).
