In order to be eligible for enrolment in the Political Science – Comparative Public Policies and Administration study programme, candidates must have finished: a study programme corresponding to first-cycle level at least, with a minimum of 180 credit points, from any field of expertise, or equivalent study programme completed according to current regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad.

The qualification holder will be able to:

General competences:

  • The master will have acquired in-depth knowledge from the fields of political sciences, comparative politics, public policies and administration;
  • The master will have developed the ability to operate independently and within a group; the latter will help develop interpersonal skills.
  • Due to the emphasis on the importance of comparative aspects of various political phenomena, institutions, processes and actors, the master will understand the differences between states and societies, which will allow him/her to understand the similarities/differences between societies and states or their policies.
  • The master will be able to draft and carry out independent methodologically sound analyses, and to draft a synthesis of the findings or results of the analysis, allowing him/her to develop  a profound critical approach, self-criticism and research capabilities.
  • This will allow him/her to be able to use the knowledge in practice and actual situations at his/her job position;
  • The master will possess the capacity to form new ideas (creativity).
  • The master will upgrade analytical work with databases and acquire knowledge from the field of quantitative and qualitative research methods (e.g. QCA, statistical processing).
  • The master will be capable of professional oral and written communication.

Subject-specific competences:

  • In-depth knowledge from the field of political science, comparative politics, public policies and administration;
  • In-depth methodological knowledge (comparative research);
  • The ability to define, understand, identify, classify and analyse classic and modern-day concepts in the field of political science, public policies and administration, and of the institutions, processes and actors in the abovementioned fields;
  • The ability of critical comparative evaluation of these concepts, processes and actors;
  • The ability to compose own written documents based on the use of appropriate sources and methodological approaches in the abovementioned fields, and the capacity to place the analyses into a broader understanding of political (science) phenomena, public policies and the functioning of administrations;
  • The understanding and the ability of the use of theories and various approaches in practice;
  • The ability to apply and combine the acquired theoretical knowledge and skills, and of methodological knowledge in independent analytical or research work, or in work organisations (professional practical work);
  • In-depth analytical abilities, mainly due to the capability to work with advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • The ability of theoretical drafting, methodological justification and implementation of own research in the abovementioned three principal study fields;
  • The ability to critically address and place the findings of own research into phenomena and concepts pertaining to political science, public policies, and administration, and the ability to reflect on the above;
  • Also based on the above, the ability to think in innovative ways;
  • The ability of oral communication and public presentations, providing arguments for own viewpoints or findings;
  • The ability to work in a group.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

Progression to a higher year is possible by completing the obligations corresponding to a minimum of 54 credit points (without special application).

Students complete the study course upon the completion of regulatory obligations from the curriculum or recognised obligations corresponding to a total of 120 credit points.
