Admission requirements Entry conditions:

Anyone who has completed the following can enroll in the Master's study programme in Journalism Studies:

  • a study programme of at least the first level, evaluated with at least 180 credit points, from professional fields: social sciences, journalism and information, humanities, or an equivalent study program obtained according to current regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad;
  • a study programme of at least the first level, evaluated with at least 180 credit points, from other professional fields, if before enrollment he / she completed study obligations essential for continuing studies, or an equivalent study programme obtained under current regulations in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad. These obligations are determined by the vice-dean for the field of study and range from 10 to a maximum of 60 credit points.

  • The general competences of the graduate are upgraded through three elective courses in the first year.

Subject-specific competences:

  • theoretical, conceptual and practical knowledge of the central problems of journalism in modern capitalist societies
  • ability to critically reflect on material production relations and their impact on the production, distribution and consumption of journalistic content
  • ability to plan, evaluate and implement research plans in relation to research objectives, hypotheses and research issues and quality
  • ability to use quantitative and qualitative methods to research journalism problems
  • ability to understand the importance of ethics and professionalism for the future of quality journalism in a national and global context
  • ability to critically understand, analyze and evaluate contemporary journalistic production for print, radio, television and digital media
  • ability to independently manage the tasks and responsibilities of editors in the period of media convergence
  • ability to use theory and use tools for analysis and visualization of quantitative and qualitative data in the creation of independent journalistic products
  • reasoned assessment of the adequacy of language choices depending on the media platform and forms of journalistic communication
  • use of photographic and video equipment and software for video editing and photo processing in relation to the conventions of modern journalistic production.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

Progression to a higher year is possible with at least 51 credit points of the current year (without a special application). In the case of exceptional circumstances (specified in the UL Statute), on the basis of an approved application, those students who have completed at least 42 credits of the current year may also enroll in the senior year.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

The student completes his / her studies when he / she completes all prescribed obligations in the amount of 120 credit points from the syllabus or recognized liabilities.
