  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of the theoretical and methodological concepts deriving from the essence of architecture as a science and art which are directly and indirectly connected to architecture,
  • autonomously develop new knowledge in the field of architecture as a generalist field and/or as specifically defined problem areas that are important for architecture and its connection with other fields,
  • address the most complex problems by testing and improving known solutions and discovering new solutions in order to achieve quality in architecture,
  • manage the most complex work systems and research projects in the broad professional/scientific field of spatial regulation and design, with an emphasis on the quality of the architectural space,
  • develop critical reflection – social, community and personal research and/or planning,
  • transfer and "communicate" research results in two senses: publication of scholarly/technical articles and also popular articles and other types of publication in the field of architecture; transfer of research achievements into architectural practice,

  • develop the methodology of architectural planning that is balanced between aesthetics and technique; with a particular emphasis on the culturally sensitive architectural and spatial context,

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must complete the general module, give a written and oral presentation of their doctoral study plan (a presentation is deemed successful if the plan receives the approval of the doctoral studies committee and the Senate of the Faculty of Architecture), and complete at least 45 first-year credits.
In order to progress from the second year to the third year, students must complete the architectural and interdisciplinary module, give a written and oral presentation of the topic of their doctoral dissertation, which includes the publication of a peer-reviewed scholarly article in an internationally significant journal or a chapter in a monograph (habilitation criteria of UL and FA are taken into account; a presentation is deemed successful if the topic and publication are approved by the doctoral studies committee, the committee responsible for assessing the topic and the senate of the Faculty of Architecture), obtain approval for the topic of their doctoral dissertation at the University of Ljubljana and complete at least 60 credits.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units in all subjects in which they have enrolled (compulsory publication of a scholarly journal article or monograph chapter is included in the "presentation of the topic of the doctoral dissertation" as part of second-year subjects and is a condition for enrolment in the third year), complete individual research, prepare a doctoral dissertation, present the results to the doctoral studies committee before defending the dissertation, and successfully defend the dissertation. The success of the dissertation is verified by the committee on dissertation assessment and defence in accordance with the Rules on the procedure for obtaining a doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana.
