  • Anyone who has completed a first-cycle study programme in any field of study and has collected 240 ECTS can enter the second-cycle programme without additional conditions.
  • Anyone who has completed a first-cycle study programme in any field of study where he or she has collected 180 ECTS must complete 60 ECTS courses within the FDV before enrolling in the second-cycle study programme within the Social Science Improvement Programme by selecting subjects agreed with the programme administrator.
  • Anyone who has completed a 4-year professional higher study programme according to a programme that could be enrolled before the introduction of the Bologna reform and completed by 2015/2016 at the latest in any professional field can enter the second-cycle programme without additional conditions.
  • Anyone who has completed a 3-year professional higher study under a programme that could be enrolled before the introduction of the Bologna reform and completed by 2015/2016 at the latest may enter the master's programme under the conditions set out in point 2.

The conditions for enrollment are also met by candidates who have completed equivalent education abroad and enroll under the same conditions as apply to candidates who have completed their education in Slovenia. Before enrolling in postgraduate studies, candidates must complete the process of recognition of education for the purpose of continuing postgraduate studies.

General competences:

The graduate gets an insight into the political theories and doctrines of the Balkans, learns concepts, key institutions of the Balkans, the operation of political processes, relevant methodological knowledge in the field of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, research political phenomena and acquires theoretical knowledge for their analysis. The student learns to participate in a research project at all stages and to produce a research report. He learns to design a longer professional text, which is checked by completing a master's thesis.

Subject-specific competences:

The graduate is qualified to analyze and contextualize political processes in the Balkans into cultural, social and economic events in the Balkans and in the world.
Subject-specific competences are related to the composition of the curriculum and are defined in the curricula of individual subjects.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
