Learning outcomes:

Certificate-holders will be able to:

  • carry out the technological processes of drilling boreholes, extracting mineral raw materials, removing and storing tailings,
  • carry out the technological processes of blasting in mining and plan mining works,
  • store, handle and correctly use explosives in mining,
  • use tools and machinery in the construction of underground spaces, tunnels, shafts and boreholes,
  • use machinery to collect secondary mineral raw materials and tailings and separate them,
  • carry out basic visual inspections and maintenance of mining machinery,
  • identify the characteristics of geological earth structures and differentiate between minerals, crystals and rocks,
  • carry out measurements of ventilation, monitor parameters and analyse results,
  • study and use technical and technological documentation, technical regulations and standards and technical drawings when carrying out mining, geotechnical and geotechnological works,
  • implement protective measures for safe work and actively protect own health,
  • show a positive attitude towards pollution-reduction measures, environmental protection and the rational use of energy and materials,
  • use modern information technology and consumer software in the professional field,
  • demonstrate understanding of the roles of entrepreneurship, costs management and calculations,

Elective:

  • carry out technological processes in the construction, maintenance and liquidation of underground spaces, tunnels and shafts,
  • carry out the technological process of underground extraction of mineral raw materials with ventilation and drainage,
  • carry out technological processes and use machinery in the extraction and transport of extracted material (ore, coal) on the surface,
  • handle explosives and equipment for the extraction of a mineral raw material, develop excavation technology and assess the need to use a special method,
  • collect, separate, store, transport and process secondary mineral raw materials and construction waste.

Certificate holders build on their key vocational knowledge and abilities with key general knowledge in line with national standards.

Assesment and completion:

Students' vocational abilities and skills, and the fulfilment of conditions to obtain credits in accordance with the relevant education programme are established through verification and assessment. Assessment of students also takes into account non-formally acquired knowledge, which must be adequately demonstrated. Students are assessed using scores from 5 (excellent) to 1 (inadequate).

Progress:

Students may progress to the next year if at the end of the academic year they achieve passing grades in all general education subjects and relevant vocational modules set out in the school’s operational curriculum, and have completed all extracurricular activities and practical on-the-job training, or progress on the basis of a programme faculty decision.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students must successfully complete general education subjects, compulsory vocational modules, elective vocational modules and the open part of the curriculum. They must also complete extracurricular activities and work placement requirements and pass a school-leaving examination.
The school-leaving examination comprises a written and oral examination in Slovene, a product/service and an oral presentation.
