Learning outcomes:

The holder of the certificate is qualified to:

  • perform technology procedures for the making of bores, mineral resources extraction, waste disposal and its storage;
  • perform technology processes for blasting in mining and plan blasting works;
  • store, manipulate and properly use pyrotechnics in mining;
  • use tools, machines and appliances for underground areas, tunnels, shafts and bores;
  • use machines and appliances for the collection of secondary mineral resources and waste as well as provide for their separation;
  • perform visual examination and maintain machines and appliances in mining;
  • determine geology soil structure characteristics, differentiate between minerals, crystals and rocks;
  • conduct ventilation measurements, monitor parameters and analyse results;
  • examine and use technical and technology documentation, technical regulations, standards and technical plans when performing mining, geotechnical and geotechnological works;
  • carry out protection measures for safe work and actively care for one’s health;
  • be positively disposed towards the measures aimed at pollution reduction, environment protection and rational use of energy and materials;
  • employ modern IT and user programmes in the occupational field;
  • understand the role of entrepreneurship, cost and calculation management. 

Optional:

  • carry out technology processes when making, maintaining and winding up underground areas, tunnels and shafts.
  • perform technology processes of underground extraction of mineral resources by way of ventilation and drainage.
  • conduct technological processes and use machines and appliances in the extraction and transport of quarried products (ore, coal) on surface.
  • manage explosives and equipment for the extraction of mineral resources, develop excavation technology and assess the need for the use of a special method.
  • collect, separate, store, transport and process secondary mineral resources and construction waste. 

In addition, the holder of the certificate also upgraded his/her key professional skills and competences with key general knowledge and skills in line with national standards. 

Assesment and completion:

Students' vocational abilities and skills, and the fulfilment of conditions to obtain credits in accordance with the relevant education programme are established through verification and assessment. Assessment of students also takes into account non-formally acquired knowledge, which must be adequately demonstrated. Students are assessed using scores from 5 (excellent) to 1 (inadequate).

Progress:

Students may progress to the next year if at the end of the academic year they achieve a positive assessment in all general education subjects and relevant vocational modules set out in the school's operational curriculum and have completed all extracurricular activities (active citizenship and extracurricular ​activities) and work placement requirements.   

For students with an individual learning contract, the condition for progression from the second to the third year is passing an intermediate test.

Progression:

Secondary technical, vocational or vocational-technical education; master craftsman/foreman/shop manager examination (SQF level 5).

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

In order to complete the education and obtain the qualification, the student/apprentice must successfully pass with positive grades:

  • general education subjects,
  • mandatory professional modules,
  • optional professional modules,
  • part of the open curriculum.

In addition, he/she must complete:

  • other forms of extracurricular activities (active citizenship and interest activities),
  • obligations in practical training  through work placement,
  • intermediate test (applies to apprentice form of education and students with an individual learning contract in the school form of education),
  • final exam.

The final exam includes:

  • written and oral examination of Slovenian language,
  • presenting and defending a service
