In accordance with the last paragraph of Article 38a of the Higher Education Act (ZViS-UPB3) and Article 16 of the Act Amending the Higher Education Act (ZViS-E), the following may enroll in university doctoral studies in Kinesiology:

  • Graduates of second-cycle study programmes at the Faculty of Sports.
  • Graduates of second-cycle study programmes of other specializations, if they pass a special knowledge test. The content and scope of the knowledge test determined by the Commission for Postgraduate Studies of the Faculty of Sports depend on the type of the candidate's previous university program and on the professional field of the doctoral study. As part of the knowledge test, the candidate must pass at least 20 ECTS of the second level of FS programs. Candidates who will choose the field of science in the Doctoral Programme in Kinesiology must collect 20KT from the second-cycle study programme of the Faculty of Sports, namely from the following professional fields: sports coaching, physiology, methodology in sports and sports biomechanics. Candidates who will choose the social sciences in the Doctoral Programme in Kinesiology must collect 20KT from the second-cycle study programme of the Faculty of Sports, namely from the following professional fields: sports psychology, sociology of sports, methodology in sports and didactics of ŠV.
  • Graduates of current study programmes for obtaining a master's degree after completing a university degree in kinesiology. Candidates are recognized for completed study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS.
  • Graduates of the current study programme for obtaining a university degree in physical education teacher.
  • Graduates of other domestic and foreign universities in accordance with the conditions prescribed in the previous paragraphs. The equivalence of previously acquired education abroad is established in the procedure of recognition of foreign education for continuing education in accordance with Article 121 of the Statute of the Official Gazette.

Subject-specific competences:

The doctoral student will acquire the ability to use modern kinesiological methods and procedures in solving research and development problems, the ability to place kinesiology in a broader social context, communication skills and the ability to report on the work and results of world kinesiology and society.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

The conditions for progression from the first to the second year of doctoral study are completed study obligations in the amount of at least 50 ECTS.

Candidates who have completed all study obligations of organized forms of teaching from the first and second year can enroll in the third year of postgraduate doctoral studies, they have the consent of the University of Ljubljana to the topic of the doctoral dissertation.

The last, third year is dedicated to individual research work, preparation of a scientific article and the preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

The condition for completing the study and obtaining the scientific title of Doctor of Science is that the candidate successfully completes all study obligations determined by the programme and successfully defends the doctoral dissertation in the total amount of 180 ECTS. The doctoral student's obligation is to publish at least one scientific article in the field of doctoral dissertation in a journal indexed by SCI. The doctoral student must be the first author of the article.
