The qualification holder will be able to:

  • apply general truths, rules and abstract concepts to specific situations in the process of nursing care, carry out analysis in order to recognise the connections and reciprocal action of different factors in the specific situation, and carry out synthesis in order to be able to connect different elements into overall picture,
  • integrate knowledge with practice in the addressing of complex situations,
  • demonstrate autonomy in professional work and professional decision-making,
  • critically assess the effectiveness and efficiency of selected methods and procedures,
  • develop communication skills and explain decisions, and the knowledge and grounds on which they are based, in a clear and unambiguous manner to a specialist and non-specialist audience,
  • work in a group and accept and give due consideration to constructive criticisms and comments,
  • critically verify information and events in the local, national and international contexts,
  • demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics, ethical reflection and conduct in the case of ethical dilemmas in healthcare,

  • undertake promotion of health, health education and learning for understanding the connections between lifestyle and health, for understanding health problems and processes for strengthening, achieving and maintaining health,
  • organise, lead and supervise activities and the nursing care service,
  • lead a nursing team,
  • provide nursing care on the basis of medical history, nursing diagnosis and the set aims of nursing care,
  • participate in the treatment process as part of a medical team and carry out diagnostic and therapeutic programmes,
  • monitor the outcomes and effects of nursing interventions and document them,
  • carry out interdisciplinary and multisectoral liaison to ensure quality treatment of the patient,
  • provide nursing care as part of emergency medical aid,
  • undertake educational work to renew own staff,
  • undertake nursing research and quality assurance,
  • demonstrate capacity for personal and professional development and the unselfish transfer of the above skills and knowledge to co-workers in a healthcare team, and a capacity for collective action,
  • demonstrate knowledge of and use information and communication technologies and information systems.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, the candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

Students may enrol in a higher year if by the end of the academic year they have met all requirements defined by the study programme for enrolment in a higher year. In order to enrol in a higher year the student must have completed all prescribed clinical training requirements in all subjects of the year and passed examinations in the following subjects: for enrolment in the second year, Basics of healthcare with clinical training, Professional ethics and philosophy of healthcare, Care of the elderly with rehabilitation and clinical training, Anatomy, physiology and pathology, Biochemistry, biophysics and pharmacology; in order to enrol in the third year the student must have passed all the remaining first-year examinations and the following examinations from the second-year curriculum: Nursing care of surgical patients with surgery and clinical training, Microbiology, molecular biology and hygiene with the basics of ecology, Supervision in nursing, Nursing care of internal medicine patients with internal medicine and clinical training, Diagnostic-therapeutic programme (Laboratory medicine and X-ray).
