Learning outcomes:

The holder of the certificate is qualified to:

  • independently undertake health and nursing interventions by life activities in line with the work process method, in health care of adult patients, children and young persons;
  • cooperate in diagnostic and therapist interventions by following doctors’ and nurses’ instructions;
  • perform health care of adult patients, children and young persons suffering from different disease and conditions in line with the work process method;
  • administer first aid, emergency medical aid and basic resuscitation procedures until the arrival of the doctor on the scene;
  • use health care appliances and appratuses;
  • care for one own’s health, for patient’s health, and positive attitude to healthy lifestyle;
  • identify needs of patients and special needs persons and quickly adapt to working process conditions;
  • cooperate in a group, communicate in writing and orally with co-workers, experts, patients and family members by using basic technical terminology;
  • act responsibly and ethically towards patients, family members, other close relatives and co-workers;
  • use contemporary ICT, work with resources, data and materials;

Optional:

Health care in psychiatry

  • provide health care to patients and/or mental disorder patients in different stages of disease and different stages of life by performing basic life activities;

Health care in geriatrics

  • conduct diagnostic and therapist procedures as well as provide intensive care (immobile elderly persons, severely mentally disabled and personally disturbed elderly persons, ensure life support to elderly persons, elderly persons completely dependent on health care and nursing personnel) by satisfying all life needs, after difficult operations, complications after cemotherapy and radiation, in deterioration of chronic illness and act in unexpected situations;

Palliative health care

  • provide health care to the chronically ill and dying, provide care to the dead and offer help and support to family members of the chronically ill, dying and dead;

Health care in rescue service

  • administer first and emergency medical aid, conduct basic resuscitation procedures by employing state-of-the art rescue equipment.

In addition, the holder of the certificate also upgraded his/her key professional skills and competences with key general knowledge and skills in line with national standards.

Assesment and completion:

Students' vocational abilities and skills and the fulfilment of conditions to obtain credits in accordance with the relevant education programme are established through verification and assessment. Assessment of students also takes into account non-formally acquired knowledge, which must be adequately demonstrated. Students are assessed using grades from 5 (excellent) to 1 (inadequate).

Progress:

Students may progress to the next year if at the end of the academic year they achieve a passing grade in all general education subjects and relevant vocational modules set out in the school's operational curriculum, and have completed all extracurricular activities and practical on-the-job training, or progress on the basis of a programme faculty decision.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students must successfully (i.e. with passing grades) complete all general education subjects, compulsory vocational modules, elective vocational modules and the open part of the curriculum. They must also complete extracurricular activities and work placement requirements and pass the vocational matura examination. The vocational matura comprises a compulsory section (written and oral examinations in Slovene and health care) and an elective section (written and oral examination in a foreign language or mathematics and a product/service with oral presentation).
