Admission requirements Entry conditions:
  • a diploma in the field of humanities or social sciences from a first-cycle study programme; or
  • a diploma in the field of humanities or social sciences from an academic higher study programme or a specialist study programme after completing a professional higher education, adopted before 11 June 2004; or
  • a diploma from other professional fields from a first-cycle study programme, if the candidate completes the study obligations that are essential for the continuation of studies before enrollment. Study obligations in the amount of up to 60 credit points (ECTS) are determined by the competent commission of UP FHŠ on the basis of the individual application of the candidate, taking into account the field of previous study. The prescribed obligations may be fulfilled by the candidate during the study at the first-cycle, in further training programs or other forms of formal education or by taking examinations before enrollment in the master's study programme; or
  • diploma from other professional fields in an academic higher study programme or specialist study programme after completing professional higher education, adopted before 11 June 2004, if the candidate completes study obligations prior to enrollment, which are essential for the continuation of studies. Study obligations in the amount of up to 60 credit points (ECTS) are determined by the competent UP FHS commission on the basis of the individual application of the candidate, taking into account the field of previous study. The candidate can perform the prescribed obligations in further training programmes or other forms of formal education or by taking exams before enrolling in a master's study programme; or
  • a diploma in a comparable study programme abroad, according to which the candidate, in accordance with the law, is granted the right to continue his / her education in the study programme.

  • comprehensive insight into the development of modern humanities and culture and society in general,
  • an overview of the broad and diverse regional cultures, forms and ways of life,
  • a systematic overview of thematic sections, each of which analyzes social and cultural experience from its own point of view, from elements of material cultural tradition to fundamental religious and other spiritual phenomena,
  • work in the field of humanities and culture, which forms and distinguishes profiles of eminent regional, national and international staff responsible for the management of culture and politics,
  • performing independent and cooperative research work in the field of humanities and social sciences, counseling in institutional units of the central and local level of the state, counseling and work in cultural institutions, civil society institutions, publishing houses, magazines, work in television and radio and other modern media,

  • an overview of the regional cultural space at the crossroads of different ethnic groups, cultures and identities, in all their diversity and intertwining,

  • knowledge of the theory, methodology and results of ethnological and anthropological research of social culture in Slovenia and abroad and their terminology, theoretical concepts and methodologies,
  • independent research of cultural phenomena and taking into account the cultural diversity and diversity that characterize the regional space,
  • knowledge of methods of collecting, evaluating and interpreting data obtained in the field or in the literature and designing texts and videos for publishing results,
  • involvement in other humanities and social sciences studies or in cultural, political and social science work of an interdisciplinary nature in the study of the way of life, creation and thinking of different ethnic groups,

  • knowledge of the cultural regionalization of the Slovenian ethnic territory, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean part of Slovenia,
  • insight into the identification of ethnological aspects of individual components of material heritage, their proper evaluation and knowledge of normative orientations in this field,
  • knowledge of the theory and methodology of ethnological study of social culture (family, kinship, neighborhood) in individual places and regions (Istria, Kambreško, Venetian Slovenia, Kanalska dolina, Ljubljana, Prekmurje, Porabje) in the 20th century,
  • production of field visual documentation in research work, including recording, inventory, storage, analysis and interpretation,
  • processing and editing of documentary material (documentation, compilation of chronologies, classification, indexing), analysis, interpretation and applications of biographical material (in school, museums, media),
  • knowledge of the practice of ethnological departments of museums, institutes for the protection of cultural heritage and research institutions and minority scientific and cultural institutions in Istria and Italy,
  • understanding the spatial aspects of heritage, understanding and recognizing spatial laws in specific environments and learning about experiences for cooperation in spatial management,
  • knowledge of the guidelines of the educational programme of the organization ICOMOS from Colombo 1993 for coordinated interdisciplinary education of various disciplines of participants in competent work with heritage.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

To progress to the second year, students must complete study obligations in the amount of at least 54 ECTS, and must complete all basic subjects of the chosen field.
