Enrolment in the master's programme in comparative linguistics is open to all graduates of the comparative linguistics programme who have attained an average grade of at least 8 in the specialist subjects of the comparative literature stream and are actively proficient in a foreign (world) language.

Learning outcomes:
  • The qualification holders have successfully developed their knowledge of the theoretical and methodological foundations of linguistics and broadened and deepened their knowledge in individual linguistics disciplines.
  • They are able to address scholarly problems through the application of scientific methods, develop insight into the phenomenon of language, and autonomously undertake theoretical and empirical research of linguistic phenomena and academic projects.
  • They have also developed substantive-methodological knowledge and competences for the original application of research procedures, strategies, methods and techniques, and for the comprehensive interpretation of linguistic phenomena.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must complete all course units prescribed by the individual study programme for the first year (at least 45 credits).
