  • A completed academic higher education programme where the filed of study is General Elementary Education (class professor); or
  • another completed academic higher education programme in the field of teacher training, and candidates have passed a common differential examination in subjects from the didactics of class teaching that were not finished in the completed undergraduate programme. 
Candidates must also meet the following requirements:
  • candidates must have an average grade of at least 8.0 in their undergraduate studies; the final grade comprises the average score from the examination requirements of the undergraduate study programme (70%) and the grade of the diploma thesis (30%), and
  • candidates must be actively proficient in one foreign language or passively proficient in two foreign languages (English, German, French, Italian or Spanish).

Learning outcomes:

The qualification holders are able to perform scientific research work, plan and develop new ideas and the resulting solutions in academic practice in class teaching. Through the evaluation of their own practical work, graduates systematically enhance their knowledge from specific didactic subjects and in parallel ensure the systematic breakdown of practical problems, which they are capable of resolving as part of a team.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10). 

Progress:

Candidates may progress to the second year when they meet requirements totalling at least 45 ECTS credits, meaning all three prescribed, common compulsory subjects and three elective pedagogical-theoretical subjects. Candidates may substitute the three elective pedagogical-theoretical subjects with the public presentation of a seminar paper in the scope of an IRD seminar.
