The following candidates can enroll in the first year of the master's study programme in the Humanities:

  • who has completed a first-cycle study programme in relevant professional fields and achieved at least 180 ECTS credits (according to the Bologna system);
  • who has completed a study programme for obtaining a higher professional higher education in relevant professional fields (before the Bologna system);
  • who has completed a first-cycle study programme in other professional fields and at the same time demonstrates appropriate professional knowledge of the enrolled field, as evidenced by publications, participation in conferences, round tables, additional exams, recommendations of experts.

Those who have completed equivalent education abroad also meet the conditions for enrollment.

The humanities and social sciences are considered as relevant professional fields.

The qualification holder will be able to:

General competences:

  • mastering the scientific apparatus, methods and techniques of research (including field work);
  • ability for independent research;
  • understanding of key theoretical concepts that define individual subjects;
  • familiarity with epistemological concepts and approaches;
  • understanding transnational processes, cultural diversity and identities at the local and global level;
  • ability of theoretical reflection and articulation of analysis of humanistic interdisciplinary contents;
  • historical placement of problems in interaction with modernity;
  • competence in writing humanistic interdisciplinary analytical, scientific texts, popular science and critical texts;
  • competence for various forms of knowledge transfer (applied science), for public presentations, presentations, performances and for establishing dialogue with the media;
  • ability to critically observe socio-cultural processes within the scientific field and at the level of everyday life;
  • use of ethical criteria and commitment to professional ethics.

Subject-specific competences:

Methodological and conceptual equipment for critical analysis of concepts and phenomena in knowledge and understanding of history, meaning and critique of basic concepts of individual subject contents of humanities and familiarity with current dilemmas:

  • the course enables orientation in work in the field of compiling scientific, research, cultural and pedagogical programs, and deepening of competencies in the field of promotion of culture and art;
  • the innovative approach enables variants of constructions from various already grounded scientific approaches and the free production of theory;
  • orientation to areas where relevant information on the humanities is necessary as a basis for work - popularization of culture and knowledge in various institutions, in the media and cultural and artistic production;
  • critical analysis and treatment of gender, body and sexuality within different scientific disciplines and in different socio-cultural environments;
  • critical analysis, reflection and learning about different types of new media and communications;
  • develop self-reflexivity in relation to the collected material and ethics, sensitivity to the subject of study.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

The condition for progression to the second year of master's (second-cycle) study is the achievement of 45 ECTS.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

To complete the master's degree in Humanities, the candidate  must complete all the obligations set out in the study programme and the curricula of the subjects included in the individual programme. Upon completion of the study, the student must collect 120 ECTS with completed obligations and successfully defend the master's thesis.
