  • General matura (the candidate must choose at least one science subject in the elective part of the general matura: biology, biotechnology, physics or chemistry), or
  • vocational matura in the secondary school pharmaceutical technician programme and an examination in the matura subject chemistry or physics, or the beauty therapist programme with an examination in the matura subject physics, or
  • vocational matura in the secondary school chemical technician programme and an examination in the matura subject biology, or
  • vocational matura in the secondary school veterinary technician programme and an examination in the matura subject physics, or
  • final examination (before 1 June 1995) for any four-year secondary school programme.

A student is qualified to: 
(general competences)

  • analyse, critically evaluate and find solutions to specific pharmaceutical, clinical-biochemical, pharmaceutical-technological and pharmaceutical-biotechnological and toxicological laboratory problems that appear in various working environments,
  • demonstrate a suitable breadth of knowledge to continue studies at the doctoral level,
  • demonstrate autonomy in the responsible performance of professional work and in the analysis of professional problems,
  • undertake individual professional work, work in a group and demonstrate the knowledge necessary for professional communication with patients and professionals from own and related fields,
  • demonstrate knowledge adequate for the understanding and application of modern techniques and methods at all levels of complexity, applicable throughout the pharmaceutical and clinical-biochemical fields,
  • ensure the quality of medicines and procedures,
  • demonstrate a suitably ethical and professional character to undertake the mission of a pharmacist,

(subject-specific competences)

  • planning, synthesis, analysis, isolation, characterisation and biological evaluation of active pharmaceutical ingredients,
  • familiarity with and understanding of the biopharmaceutical characteristics of medicinal products and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of active pharmaceutical ingredients in the organism,
  • designing pharmaceutical forms, mastery of classical technological, biotechnological and nanotechnological design/production processes including evaluation and monitoring of the pharmaceutical/technical properties of medicinal products,
  • use of analytical methods, interpretation of results in clinical biochemical laboratories and their utility in diagnosis, determination of etiology and monitoring the effects of treatment (areas of Master’s in Pharmacy which fall under the field of medicine)
  • development, production, quality control and marketing of medicinal products,
  • familiarity with and development of legislation, regulations and ethics in the field of manufacture and sale of medicinal products and pharmacy activities,
  • familiarity with the basic concepts of public health and healthcare policy,
  • understanding of the effects of medicinal products on the individual as a member of modern society and on society as a whole,
  • familiarity with the principles of evaluation of healthcare technologies, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics and pharmacovigilance including toxicology,
  • management of the supply of medicinal products and medical accessories and other healthcare and health safety items,
  • consulting on the correct use of medicinal products, the functioning of medicinal products, unwanted side-effects, taking multiple medicinal products simultaneously, promotion of healthy lifestyles etc.
  • participation in planning and management of treatment of individual patients on the basis of familiarity with medicinal products and etiology, pathophysiology and diagnostics of disease,
  • development, implementation and interpretation of individualised therapies and implementation of pharmacogenomics in the research and development of new medicinal products,
  • planning and implementation of rational use of human resources, time, material, financial and information resources.

Assesment and completion

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, the candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress to the second year, students must meet in full the requirements defined by the programme and syllabuses, obtaining a total of 60 ECTS credits for the first year. In order to progress to the third year, students must meet in full the requirements defined by the programme and syllabuses, obtaining a total of 60 ECTS credits for the second year. In order to progress to the fourth year, students must meet in full the requirements defined by the programme and syllabuses, comprising 55 ECTS credits, with the exception of an elective subject comprising 5 ECTS credits. In order to progress to the fifth year, students must have met fourth-year requirements totalling at least 50 ECTS credits.

Conditions for obtaining a public document

To complete their studies, students of the integrated Master's programme in pharmacy must complete all requirements defined by the study programme and subject syllabuses, comprising a total of 300 ECTS credits. Students must carry out research for their master's thesis, write their thesis and defend it before a committee appointed by the Senate of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Successful completion of practical training, which concludes with a professional examination, is a condition for the completion of studies.
