- an in-depth understanding of the key theoretical perspectives underlying modern approaches in gerontological nursing and the use of methods in research on nursing and care for the elderly,
- critical reflection and skills in the context of planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for people with dementia,
- a critical understanding of the various philosophical perspectives of the personality and the concepts, principles and theories that support patient-centered care,
- understanding the concepts of emotional work, emotional intelligence and their usefulness in care and emotional work in nursing,
- critical analysis of quality evaluation approaches and methods applied to the clinical environment,
- ability to develop and implement appropriate research models in the field of measuring the effects of patient care, critical analysis of various concepts of care for patients with chronic diseases, their cooperation between health professionals and their families,
- acquisition of new knowledge in the field of growth and development of the child, the impact of nutrition on health and new guidelines in the field of treatment of children and adolescents to support nursing care,
- recognition of the most common mental disorders, their etiology, pathophysiology; clinical courses and guidelines for treatment and rehabilitation of persons with mental disorders for the holistic treatment of the patient, knowledge of psychosocial competencies in solving complex psychosocial issues in clinical practice,
- acquisition of new knowledge in the field of patient safety, safety culture and risk management in health care,
- adoption of ergonomic approaches and advanced organizational changes in health care and kinesiological relief of health care staff and patients, adoption of nutritional therapy for various diseases in the framework of preventive health care based on research,
- understanding of supervision techniques using research methods and case studies in the clinical environment, knowledge of statistical models for federal, categorical and censored output variables related to the field of health sciences, in-depth knowledge and understanding of legal concepts, institutes and topics related to health care,
- knowledge and understanding of human health and disease by identifying biological, political, social, environmental and behavioral factors that affect the health status of the population and disease burden. Training for the preparation of proposals for strategies and programs of activities in the field of environmental impacts on health,
- critical assessment of the benefits and risks of equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic treatment in healthcare,
- understanding the management and risk management of health care management, the ability to understand the health sector, the formulation of health policy and the management of health organizations from an economic point of view,
- understanding the management of logistics processes and supply chains in healthcare.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress from the first to the second year, the student will have to complete all the obligations of the first year determined by the study programme in the amount of 60 ECTS. When progressing from the second to the third year of the doctoral study programme, the student will have to complete all obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS credits of the second year.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
The student will complete the study when he / she fulfills all the obligations stipulated by the study programme and has written and successfully defended his / her doctoral dissertation, thus collecting a total of at least 180 ECTS. The condition for the completion of the third level study programme Nursing is the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation in accordance with the Statute of the University of Maribor and the Rules on the preparation and defense of the doctoral dissertation (hereinafter the Rules). The candidate will be able to defend his / her doctoral dissertation when he / she has completed the doctoral study obligations (i.e. when he / she has applied for a doctoral thesis and written a doctoral dissertation and received a positive evaluation of the dissertation evaluation committee in accordance with the Rules). In particular, the doctoral dissertation must satisfy the condition of originality and must represent an original scientific contribution in the field it deals with. In addition, the results and methodology of the dissertation must be critically evaluated by the international scientific community before being promoted to the scientific title of "Doctor of Science", namely students must publish an article in one of the journals from the Science Citation Index (SCI) with 1F.
