Admission requirements Entry conditions:

Anyone who has completed the following can enroll in the third-cycle study programme Art History :

  • a second-cycle bologna study programme; or
  • an university study programme adopted before 11 June 2004, or
  • a university non-Bologna study programme in the amount of 240 ECTS and a specialist programme, thus raising a total of 300 ECTS, or
  • a professional higher study programme adopted before 11 June 2004, which could be enrolled before the introduction of the Bologna reform and completed by 2015/16 at the latest, and a study programme for obtaining a specialization, or
  • one of the study programs educating for professions regulated by European Union directives, or another uniform master's study program evaluated with at least 300 ECTS,
  • an equivalent education abroad that is duly recognized, or
  • a Master of Science in non-Bologna programmes.

  • creative and critical thinking, linking facts and laws into new combinations of behaviors,

  • communication in the profession and between professions,

  • ability to use and develop research methods in the preparation of scientific research work,
  • autonomy in scientific research and the ability to make critical judgments in decision-making,
  • ability to independently and critically use the acquired theoretical knowledge to solve problems in practice,

  • ability to analyze in-depth comparative sources,
  • ability to work in project groups and their management, cooperation.

Subject-specific competences:

  • in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of the art history profession,
  • in-depth knowledge, mastery and ability to develop research methodology in the field of art history
  • in-depth knowledge of the place of art history in the broader context of the humanities
  • developing communication skills for successful public speaking,
  • in-depth knowledge of modern research theoretical and methodological approaches in the field of art history and their application,
  • the ability to comparatively connect art history research issues in a broader context and its critical reflection,
  • ability to plan, carry out, evaluate and present one's own research work using modern methods,
  • ability to respond to current art-historical challenges of modern times. Subject-specific competencies ensure the qualification of the candidate for quality scientific and independent work in the field of art history and motivate for the ability of independent lifelong learning.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

To progress to the second year of study, a student must collect at least 48 ECTS from the obligations of the first year; all compulsory subjects from two of the three modules must be completed. To progress to the third year, he/she must complete all the obligations of the first year and successfully defend the disposition of his doctoral dissertation.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

The candidate successfully completes the study after positively completing all the prescribed obligations in the curriculum and after writing and successfully defending the doctoral dissertation.
