Anyone who meets at least one of the following criteria can enroll in the first year of the doctoral study programme Sociology:

  • who has completed a second-cycle study programme (according to the Bologna system) and achieved a total of at least 300 ECTS credits (according to the Bologna system) at the first and second level or at a single master's degree;
  • who has completed the current (old, i.e. before the Bologna system) undergraduate study programme for obtaining a university education;
  • who has completed a second-cycle study programme (according to the Bologna system) and previously completed a professional higher programme (before the Bologna system), having to have completed a total of at least five years of study.

  • knowledge of the importance of quality and striving for the quality of professional work through autonomy, (self) criticism, (self) reflexivity and (self) evaluation in professional work;

Subject-specific competences:

  • ability to solve concrete research problems in various fields of sociology and related disciplines;
  • development of skills in the application of knowledge in the research field of sociology and related disciplines;
  • ability to innovatively use and combine research empirical sociological methods and methods of its related disciplines (triangulation methods);
  • the ability to complexly acquire, select, evaluate and place new knowledge and the ability to interpret in the context of sociology (and social sciences in general);
  • ability to design and implement original scientific solutions to given social problems;
  • the ability of a complex systemic view of society and an interdisciplinary approach, which manifests itself as an understanding of the general structure of the social sciences and the connections between its individual disciplines and subdisciplines;
  • ability to present the obtained scientific results in the form of publications in international scientific periodicals.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

To progress from the first to the second year, a student must achieve at least 30 ECTS from the first year, submit a topic application on the form OBR-FUDŠ-010, approved by the Commission for Scientific Research (hereinafter KZRD), and submit a doctoral dissertation, which is proven with the signature of the mentor on the form OBR-FUDŠ-011.

The condition for progression from the second to the third year is the fulfillment of all obligations of the first year in the amount of 60 ECTS, individual work of the second year in the amount of 60 ECTS, which is assessed based on the mentor's opinion and confirmed disposition at the FUDŠ senate.
The faculty senate may approve progression  to a higher year even if the student has not met the required conditions in the following circumstances: maternity, prolonged illness, exceptional family or social circumstances, participation in top cultural, sports or professional events. In this case, the student must provide appropriate evidence.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:
  • successfully completed all study obligations prescribed by the programme
  • preparation and successful defense of a doctoral dissertation
  • the student completes his / her studies when he / she collects all 180 credits provided by the study programme
