  • a completed former specialisation programme (candidates have previously completed a professional higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004); the Student Affairs Office at ISH will specify course units ranging from 30 to 60 credits for such candidates; or
  • a completed study programme leading to a pre-Bologna research master's degree or specialisation following the completion of a study programme leading to an academic higher education qualification, adopted before 11 June 2004; at least 60 credits will be recognised for these candidates; or
  • a completed study programme leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or another integrated master's degree programme consisting of 300 credits.

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder is be able to:
  • carry out independent research,
  • demonstrate understanding of the key theoretical concepts that define individual subjects,
  • demonstrate mastery of scholarly apparatus and the methods and techniques of research (including fieldwork),
  • demonstrate knowledge of epistemological concepts and approaches,
  • demonstrate understanding of transnational processes, cultural diversity and identities at the local and global levels,
  • carry out theoretical reflection and articulate analysis of interdisciplinary contents in the humanities,
  • place problems in historical context in interaction with the present,
  • write interdisciplinary analytical and scholarly texts in the field of a humanities; write popular-science and critical texts;
  • transfer knowledge in various ways (applied science), for public presentations and demonstrations and in order to establish dialogue with the media,
  • critically observe sociocultural processes within a scholarly field and at the level of everyday life,
  • apply ethical criteria and a commitment to professional ethics.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:
In order to progress to the second year, candidates must have completed course units totalling at least 45 credits; in order to progress to the third year they must have completed all taught course units in the first and second years and have obtained the approval of the senate for the subject of their doctoral thesis.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme.
