Qualification holders are qualified to:
(general competences)

• show a high level of insight into the development of geographical science,
• show a high level of insight into the development of the modern interdependence between various social and spatial systems,
• offer a comprehensive overview of the diversity of social and regional environments,
• offer a comprehensive overview of the thematic categories that analyse, each from its own point of view, social and spatial interdependence at the local, regional, national, macroregional and global levels,
• work in the field of the analysis, interpretation and direction of social and spatial phenomena and processes, which requires interdisciplinary knowledge of the highest level,
• undertake autonomous professional work in the fields of karst geography, geography of the Mediterranean, geography of European integrations, economic geography and geography of tourism,
• plan sustainable development opportunities in Slovenia and Europe,
• work in institutional units at the central and local levels of the State, work in planning institutions, civil society institutions and companies, work in television and radio and other modern media,
• demonstrate the highest proficiency in broad range of qualitative and quantitative research methods,
• demonstrate a very high level of communication skills and expertise, critically assess and produce autonomous written texts,
• critically assess current natural, social and political events, and interpret and evaluate natural and social phenomena,
• demonstrate a high commitment to professional ethics and develop critical judgement that contributes to the objectivity of the results achieved,
• critically verify written and oral sources and information and analyse phenomena,
• analyse phenomena in spatial, political, social, economic, cultural and other contexts at the local, national and international levels,
• apply theoretical and practical research methods in understanding and orienting the interdependence of man and his social and natural environment,

• demonstrate the highest level of knowledge and understanding of the basic problems and processes of modern geography and the mutual connections and relationships within and among its sub-disciplines in the management and orientation of sustainable development,
• demonstrate the highest level of coherent mastery of specialised knowledge from the field of geographical research methodology and integrate this knowledge with knowledge from other fields,
• demonstrate the highest level of knowledge and understanding of the basic developmental characteristics and problems in the development, regulation and protection of the landscape and the developmental problems of different geographical areas,
• demonstrate the highest level of knowledge and understanding of the applied possibilities of geography in the field of the specialised management of different geographically relevant areas,
• demonstrate the highest level of knowledge and understanding of the basic characteristics of the physical and social geography of the Mediterranean and urban geography,
• demonstrate the highest level of knowledge and understanding of the basic developmental characteristics and problems in the development, regulation and protection of coastal areas and the protection of nature and biodiversity in the Mediterranean region,

• resolve specific problems that arise in the course of their work, applying relevant specialised knowledge, scientific methods and skills acquired during their studies,
• place new information and interpretations in the context of spatial planning studies or special problem areas of physical, social and regional geography,
• demonstrate understanding of the development of various theories in their own field and other relevant fields and apply these theories when addressing specific work problems,
• demonstrate complex understanding of the diversity and interdependence of a wide variety of social, cultural and natural spaces,
• provide specialised interpretation of processes and phenomena in the context of natural and social spaces and orient development potential through integration of these processes and phenomena,

• undertake work at the highest level in the field of the protection and development of complex social and natural spaces such as coastal and border areas and areas of cultural contact, and associated work in regional development agencies, local and national institutions, EU institutions and other related fields in the public and private sectors,
• organise and lead cultural, sustainable policies and ecotourism policies.
