Admission requirements Entry conditions:
  • A second-cycle study programme or
  • am academic (university) study programme adopted prior to 11 June 2004, or
  • a professional higher education programme adopted prior to 11 June 2004 and a study programme to obtain a specialised qualification. Prior to enrolment in the study programme, such candidates must meet study requirements of 30 ECTS credits, which candidates obtain by completing the requirements in the following subjects from the first semester of the second-cycle master’s programme Agrarian economics: Theoretical and empirical analysis in agrarian economics, Basics of research work in agricultural management, Economics and marketing in the agro-food sector, Organic farm management, Production systems and sustainable development or
  • a study programme that leads to vocations governed by EU directives, or another non-structured master’s degree programme assessed at 300 credits.

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder is be able to:

  • identify a given research problem, analyse it and possibly solve it,
  • master standard methods, procedures and processes of research work on agrarian economics,
  • apply acquired theoretical knowledge in practice,
  • autonomy in research and technical work,
  • show a commitment to professional ethics,

  • solve specific research problems in various fields of agrarian economics as well as its related disciplines,
  • develop skills in the application of knowledge in their specific research and work area of Agrarian Economics and related disciplines,
  • continuously apply standard empirical research methods of agrarian economics and its related disciplines (econometric modelling, decision-making theory, empirical marketing research),
  • formulate and implement original scientific solutions to given agrarian economics problems,
  • present the scientific results obtained in the form of a publication in an international scientific periodical.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

Progress:

To enrol in the second year students must complete 30 credits, and must pass the examination in the subject Methodology and ethics in scientific research work, and they must also start the process of registering their doctoral topic, meaning that the topic must be confirmed by the Scientific Research Committee at the faculty. To enrol in the third year the doctoral topic must be confirmed by the Scientific Research Committee at the University of Maribor.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students complete their studies when they have completed all the obligations in the amount of at least 180 credits, and have successfully defended their doctoral thesis.
