Into the programme candidates can enroll:

  • who passed the matura,
  • who has passed the vocational matura in any upper secondary school programme and the examination in one of the matura subjects: art history, art theory, history, philosophy, psychology or sociology; the chosen subject must not be a subject that the candidate has already passed at the vocational matura,
  • who has  completed any four-year upper secondary school programme before 1.6. 1995.

All candidates must pass the aptitude test, which is conducted and assessed according to the Rules on the Aptitude Test of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the rules of the Enrollment Commission of the University of Ljubljana, published in the annual Tender of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.

The qualification holder will be able to:

General competences:

  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and plan the design process of industrial design,
  • mastery of research methods in design, its procedures and processes,
  • development of critical and self-critical assessment of the results of design work,
  • ability to apply knowledge in practice,
  • autonomy in professional work,
  • development of communication skills, especially communication in the international environment,
  • ethical reflection and commitment to professional ethics,
  • cooperation, group work (and in the international environment), etc.,
  • ability to understand the interdependence between different professions, technology, design and user - market.

Subject-specific competences:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the design profession and its development,
  • ability to solve concrete design problems using scientific methods and procedures of design theory and practice,
  • coherent mastery of basic knowledge, the ability to integrate design knowledge from different fields and its applications,
  • ability to place new information and technologies in the context of the basic profession,
  • understanding the general structure of design and the connection with other professions,
  • understanding and application of methods of critical analysis and development of design theories and their use in solving concrete work problems,
  • development of skills in the application of knowledge in various professional fields,
  • use of information and communication technology and systems in the field of design and beyond.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

To progress to a higher year, students must have a confirmed previous year with frequencies from all subjects and the following number of ECTS credits:

  • for enrollment in the second year at least 54 ECTS credits,
  • for enrollment in the third year 60 ECTS of the first year and at least 54 ECTS according to ECTS of the second year.

The ALUO Commission for Academic Affairs may exceptionally approve a student's progression to a higher year if he / she has achieved at least 42 ECTS credits in the previous year, if he / she has justifiable reasons for this. These are listed in the Statute of the University of Ljubljana.

To complete the study, students must complete:

  • all obligations in all subjects enlisted,
  • submit a portfolio with the contents of the work in the field of her/his study programme,
  • prepare a thesis and defend it.
