Learning outcomes:

Certificate holders will be able to:

  • use specialist literature, technical and technological documentation and technical regulations, standards and legislation governing environmental protection,
  • use modern ICT to find, evaluate, save, process and use information,
  • prepare documentation for the acquisition of environmental and other permits; use project documentation and technical documentation,
  • manage environmental protection technologies,
  • carry out simple analyses of samples of various materials, water and soil,
  • plan and organise the work of a team and keep various records,

(elective)

  • plan, organise and manage parts of landfills and handle hazardous waste correctly,
  • implement basic measurements in the field of water management and monitor and ensure parameters in water supply systems,
  • carry out basic laboratory tests in the treatment and discharge of waste water and monitor and ensure parameters in the process of waste water treatment,
  • collect data and prepare background documentation for spatial planning and town planning, industrial infrastructure and remediation of the impacts of mining activity,
  • take soil samples for the needs of laboratory analysis and use geographic information systems,
  • keep records of waste, sources of pollution, and energy consumption and keep a treatment plant operating log,
  • carry out measurements and monitor air pollution and keep records of the operation and maintenance of combustion plants and flue ducts.

Certificate holders build on their key vocational knowledge and abilities with key general knowledge in line with national standards.

Assesment and completion:

Students' vocational abilities and skills and the fulfilment of conditions to obtain credits in accordance with the relevant education programme are established through verification and assessment. Assessment of students also takes into account non-formally acquired knowledge, which must be adequately demonstrated. Students are assessed using grades from 5 (excellent) to 1 (inadequate).

Progress:

Students may progress to the next year if at the end of the academic year they pass all general education subjects and relevant vocational modules set out in the school’s operational curriculum, and have completed all extracurricular activities and practical on-the-job training, or progress on the basis of a programme faculty decision.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students must successfully (i.e. with passing grades) complete general education subjects, compulsory and elective vocational modules, and the open part of the curriculum. They must also complete extracurricular activities work placement requirements and pass the vocational matura examination.

A vocational matura comprises a compulsory section (written and oral examination in Slovene, written and oral examination in environmental protection) and an elective section (written and oral foreign language or mathematics examination, and a product/service and an oral presentation).
