Enrolment in the programme is open to candidates who have successfully completed education at the VIII/U level in the natural sciences/mathematics field, specifically a mathematics or physics programme that includes, in addition to numerical methods, mechanics or continuum mechanics. Enrolment in the programme is also open to graduates of mechanical engineering or civil engineering programmes with sufficient bound-state mechanics content who are familiar with numerical methods in engineering.

Assesment and completion:

Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress from the first to the second year, students must complete at least 45 credits. The graduate studies commission may set additional conditions in accordance with the curriculum at the start of the academic year.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students may begin their master's thesis when they have completed at least half the course units in common and elective subjects. Students complete the master's programme in mechanics when they have undergone testing for all semesters, completed all envisaged subjects and successfully defended a master's thesis. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
