  • A completed single-subject or two-subject first-cycle study programme in history; or
  • a completed undergraduate programme in a humanities field (first cycle, 180 credits); candidates must additionally complete 20 credits from the single-subject undergraduate programme , as follows: Structure and Development of Historical Science (5 credits) Theory of History (5 credits) and two subjects worth 5 credits each, prescribed with regard to the chosen stream by the Department of History for each individual candidate; or
  • a completed undergraduate programme in a social sciences field (first cycle, 180 credits); candidates must additionally complete 30 credits from a single-subject undergraduate programme, as follows: Structure and Development of Historical Science (5 credits) Theory of History (5 credits) and four subjects worth 5 credits each, prescribed with regard to the chosen stream by the Department of History for each individual candidate; or
  • a completed undergraduate programme in an engineering or natural sciences field (first cycle, 180 credits); candidates must additionally complete 60 credits from a single-subject undergraduate programme, as follows: Structure and Development of Historical Science (5 credits) Theory of History (5 credits) and ten subjects worth 5 credits each, prescribed with regard to the chosen stream by the Department of History for each individual candidate; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme under the old programme in a humanities or social sciences field; the Department of History may recognise individual subjects, above all as elective subjects, on the basis of an individual decision.

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder will be able to:
  • demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in a specialised area of individual fields of historiography; historical knowledge and historical interpretation,
  • describe, analyse and interpret individual historical events and processes,
  • recognise fundamental historiographical texts and master the latest theoretical historiographical positions,
  • perform independent and original interpretation of historical events,
  • use a historical-anthropological approach and apply interdisciplinary treatment,
  • produce an original survey article or research paper within history as an academic discipline,
  • demonstrate accurate and analytical understanding of historical sources from antiquity to the present, written in various languages and scripts.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress from the first to the second year, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, for a total of 60 credits.
