- acquire, select, assess, contextualise and interpret new information and knowledge,

- demonstrate mastery and understanding of the philosophical, theological, biblical and spiritual context of the family and marriage,
- select and use philosophical, theological and biblical texts to provide understanding and assistance in concrete life situations,
- recognise the various forms, values and models of family and marital relationships from the social point of view and their changes over time,
- demonstrate understanding of family relationships from the point of view of social categories such as relations between the sexes, between generations, between siblings, relatives, etc.
- demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of functional/dysfunctional processes, dynamics, principles, characteristics and roles in the family and marriage; analyse and synthesise them and anticipate solutions and their consequences,
- demonstrate basic knowledge of and critically evaluate various psychopathological categories and mental health disorders and identify them in concrete cases (including from the point of view of relational family therapy),
- use various perspectives, models and theories to understand specific problems in the family, in marriages and in individuals; develop hypotheses and generative responses to problem situations,
- demonstrate knowledge of major development theories, the prevailing conceptual views in the field of human, family and marriage development, and critically apply these scholarly findings,
- identify and demonstrate knowledge of the most common developmental disorders and demonstrate understanding of the neurological, mental, social and spiritual aspects of individual disorders,
- test and develop adequate safety plans for cases such as substance abuse, mistreatment of children and the elderly, domestic violence, physical violence, suicidal potential and danger to the self or others,
- demonstrate knowledge of and apply the basic principles of the relational family model when working with families,
- demonstrate knowledge of and work in accordance with codes of ethics in the field of family work, with an emphasis on the Code of Ethical Principles in Social Care, and the Ethical Code in Marriage and Family Therapy,
- demonstrate understanding of legislation, legal requirements, authorisations and restrictions applying to work with various groups, with emphasis on the field of the family, family relationships and social care,
- demonstrate understanding of and apply scholarly research methods, procedures and processes in the field of social sciences, with an emphasis on the field of the family and marriage, and evaluate them critically,
- identify the possibilities of and apply scholarly research to the resolution of concrete issues in the field of the family, marriage and family and marriage interventions, and contribute to the development of new knowledge in these fields.
In order to progress from the first to the second year, students must have completed all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, for a total of 60 credits.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
In order to complete the study programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the programme. This means completing all 120 credits and writing and successfully defending a master's thesis.
