Completed:

  • first-cycle study programme in the field of social work, sociology, social pedagogy, pedagogy, psychology or law involving acquisition of 240 credits or
  • first-cycle study programme in another professional field involving 240 credits; previously the candidate must have passed differential examinations (20 credits), including three subjects of 4 credits each, and practical work amounting to 8 credits; subjects are: introduction to social work, theory of social work, research seminar and practice; in accordance with Article 38 of the Higher Education Act, these obligations must be fulfilled prior to enrolment in the master’s programme or
  • three-year revised first-cycle study programme involving acquisition of 180 credits; the candidate must complete an extra year and thereby acquire the missing 60 credits or
  • 4-year professional higher education programme in the fields set out in the first indent; the candidate may enrol in the master’s programme under the conditions given in the first indent or
  • 4-year professional higher education programme in another professional field; the candidate may enrol in the master’s programme under the conditions given in the second indent or
  • 3-year professional higher education programme; the candidate may enrol under the conditions given in the third indent.

  • understand the basic theoretical concepts in the areas of handicap, human rights, multiculturalism, gender and their combined effects,
  • perform critical research in social work,
  • apply knowledge in practice and reflect critically,
  • reflect critically on relevant legislation and public policy,
  • understand the concepts of power, exclusion and inclusion,
  • understand and apply the concepts of anti-discrimination and intercultural social work,
  • understand tolerance and intolerance, prejudices, constructions of the other, alienation, social distance, reproduction of unequal opportunities and violence,
  • know and be familiar with methods of social inclusion and pluralisation of programmes and services in social protection,

  • understand and apply the principles of ethnically sensitive social work,
  • know the models of social work with ethnic minorities and immigrants, with emphasis on the method of social work in the community,
  • analyse the functioning of public, private and non-governmental social services in terms of accessibility for members of ethnic minorities and immigrants,
  • understand the effect of media representations in the area of ethnicity and migration,
  • understand the concept of gender and its social construction from the cultural and historical perspective,
  • understand the historical, economic, social, political and symbolic status of women and children in Slovenia and around the world,
  • analyse social services in terms of their responsiveness to gender differences,
  • understand the concepts of violence with emphasis on violence against women and children,
  • know and apply the models and methods of social work with women who have experienced violence in the home and in institutions, and with women in mental and other health-related hardship,
  • know and apply models and methods of social work with children that have experienced abuse, with emphasis on recuperation,
  • plan social services and programmes that accommodate the perspective of gender,
  • critically analyse social policy in terms of gender equality in practice,
  • understand the historical development of ideas in social work,
  • understand the development of the profession, institutions, methods and education in the field of social work,
  • know the key figures and fundamental works in the field of social work in the 19th and 20th centuries,
  • understand the differing development of social work around the world, with emphasis on the development of social work in Eastern Europe,
  • contextualise the development of ideas on social work in different environments.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
