Completed:
  • first-cycle study programme in the field of social work, sociology, social pedagogy, pedagogy, psychology or law involving acquisition of 240 credits or
  • first-cycle study programme in another professional field involving 240 credits; previously the candidate must have passed differential examinations (20 credits), including three subjects of 4 credits each, and practical work amounting to 8 credits; subjects are: introduction to social work, theory of social work, research seminar and practice; in accordance with Article 38 of the Higher Education Act, these obligations must be fulfilled prior to enrolment in the master’s programme or
  • three-year revised first-cycle study programme involving acquisition of 180 credits; the candidate must complete an extra year and thereby acquire the missing 60 credits or
  • 4-year professional higher education programme in the fields set out in the first indent; the candidate may enrol in the master’s programme under the conditions given in the first indent or
  • 4-year professional higher education programme in another professional field; the candidate may enrol in the master’s programme under the conditions given in the second indent or
  • 3-year professional higher education programme; the candidate may enrol under the conditions given in the third indent.

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder is qualified to: 
  • know and understand the fundamental values, principles and skills of modern participatory social work,
  • know and understand the theory, approaches and methods of modern participatory social work in the area of psychosocial support and help (counselling work),
  • know and understand the basic models and principles of a social state and social security,
  • know and understand the basic sociological and humanist theories and concepts that are vital to social work,
  • know and understand the fields of social work, especially the fields of social work in education, supervision in social work, the general development of theory and methods of social work,
  • know and understand the basic laws of pedagogy and adult education, especially in terms of counselling work,
  • synthesise the fundamental concepts of modern participatory social work and methods of enacting these concepts in the practice of indirect and direct social work (especially in the fields of education, supervisions, research, social policy etc.),
  • synthesise social, legal, psychological and anthropological theory into the theories, methods and procedures of social work,
  • synthesise legal, economic and political (and social) factors of social work into the practice of social work,
  • synthesise different theories into personal theoretical matrices and approaches, methods and techniques into a personal style of work or collaboration (in the are of education, supervision etc.),
  • use the language of modern participatory social work,
  • use the methods and fundamental skills of participatory social work,
  • apply legal procedures,
  • apply an understanding of socio-political concepts in practical work,
  • apply theories and concept for creating actions (project), for understanding the determinant of processes and the outcomes of own work,
  • apply the project method of work,
  • apply methods of social work in the practical environment,
  • apply methods and techniques of supervision,
  • reflect critically (and consistently apply the ethic of involvement and strengthening power).

 

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

Progress:

The programme for students who meet the conditions for the relevant undergraduate programme (240 credits) lasts one year. Students who collect less credits in the undergraduate programme or who have not completed the relevant programme must acquire additional credits through a programme of additional professional study.
