- understand the characteristics and status of language variations in the German-speaking world, and link such knowledge through the analysis of authentic texts,
- understand the grammar and lexical systematics of contemporary German, and the semantic, cognitive, cultural and intercultural dimensions of vocabulary,
- demonstrate knowledge of the typology of grammar and the critical use of grammar and other linguistic handbooks for German,
- perform thorough, critical and independent work with elementary and secondary literature from the German-speaking world,
- demonstrate advanced and broad knowledge of the characteristics of literature, from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day,
- demonstrate thorough understanding of literary production and reception, primarily in an aesthetic, cultural-historical and intercultural context,
- recognise and respect the cultural diversity of learners and the culture of German-speaking areas and other language areas, and thus stimulate own cultural awareness,
- understand the relationships between literary and other social systems,
- employ appropriate work approaches with respect to the social, cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity of students,
- teach a foreign language in the classroom, and work outside the classroom and with social partners, and independently organise and evaluate work in the field of education,
- develop linguistic competences and the skills of students to acquire knowledge in lifelong learning processes,
- understand the developmental traits of the individual, especially the cognitive-psychological, sociological and didactic laws of acquiring and learning a language, in particular a foreign language, in different age groups, and adapt the teaching of language accordingly,
- perform professional independent, (self-) critical, (self-) reflective, and (self) assessment work,
- integrate content associated with teaching German to other subjects,
- clearly, systematically, and precisely plan work associated with the teaching of a foreign language – German at the micro and macro levels,
- ensure the continuity of learning and work, and progress taking into account national, regional and school curricular policies,
- work with individuals who demonstrate above-average results in learning German, who have special education needs and who have problems learning German,
- promote interactive work in all forms of teaching,
- verify and assess knowledge of a foreign language and the other achievements of students in accordance with national and other standards.
Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
Students must complete at least 21 ECTS credits to progress to the second year of the programme, by meeting the requirements from the following subjects and learning content: pedagogical-didactic-psychology subjects, Verbal and Written Expression, Didactics of German I and Practical Teaching I – German. The number of ECTS credits envisaged by the other selected two-subject study programme must also be completed.
