  • A completed first-cycle study programme in a relevant field (first indent of Article 38a of the ZVis): special and rehabilitation pedagogy, social pedagogy, art education, music education, musicology, art and humanities, social sciences, general elementary teaching, psychology, education science, social work, pre-school education, health (occupational therapy, physiotherapy), consisting of at least 180 credits; or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme in another field (second indent of Article 38a of the ZVis) consisting of at least 180 credits, if prior to enrolment the candidate completes course units essential for continuing studies; these are determined by the Postgraduate Studies Commission of the Faculty of Education with reference to how different the field is, and consist of 10 to 60 credits; or 
  • a completed professional higher education programme adopted under legal provisions in force before 11 June 2004, in a relevant field: special and rehabilitation pedagogy, social pedagogy, art education, music education, musicology, art and humanities, social sciences, general elementary teaching, psychology, education science, social work, pre-school education, health (occupational therapy, physiotherapy); or

Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder will be able to:

  • understand art therapy as a component of psychosocial assistance for the individual, which covers an extremely wide range of different approaches, and use these in individual and group form,
  • integrate acquired knowledge of art therapy with knowledge from the broader specialist areas of psychology, social anthropology, sociology of culture, interpersonal communicology, social, special and rehabilitation pedagogy, psychopathology and psychotherapy, theory of art therapy and methodology of research,
  • implement art therapy in a chosen artistic medium (the preferred medium in which the student is most proficient),
  • include other fields of art in the process of art therapy alongside the chosen artistic medium in order to facilitate and accelerate the therapy process,
  • gain practical experience of methods of art therapy by working with different users with special needs and through individual and group work as a participant and facilitator,
  • develop and establish a relationship with a user and establish and facilitate processes of mutual relations within groups,
  • create a safe environment in which the user feels comfortable and the art therapy process can take place, 
  • demonstrate awareness of the importance of regular supervision for the effective implementation of own art therapy practice and to prevent burnout.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10). 
 

Progress:
In order to progress to the second year, students must complete 54 first-year credits.
