  • demonstrate mastery of basic skills, practical knowledge, research methods and procedures and processes in biology and develop a range of self-critical assessments in this field,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the components of "traditional biology", above all from the point of view of biodiversity, molecular biology and physiology, and borderline fields of biology (biophysics, biochemistry, biostatistics, nature conservation),
  • apply knowledge from natural sciences materials, in particular biology, at various levels,
  • demonstrate autonomy in professional work in the field of biology,
  • demonstrate proficiency in communication skills and expertise in general, and take part in teamwork in both the national and international business and scientific environments,

  • demonstrate knowledge of the individual organisational and functional levels of organisms from molecules to communities,
  • integrate knowledge from various natural science disciplines,
  • think systemically, in a manner that enables participation in interdisciplinary groups for addressing biological problems and related scientific, professional and practical problems,
  • address biological problems in both basic contexts (research) and applied contexts (project work in administration, business sector).

Assesment and completion:

Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

A condition for progression to the second year is the completion of at least 45 ECTS credits. The subjects completed must include: Physics, Chemistry, Cell Biology, General Botany and General Zoology. In order to progress to the third year, students must have completed all first-year course units (60 ECTS credits) and have accumulated 45 ECTS credits from completed second-year course units.
