Learning outcomes:

The qualification holder will be able to:

  • promote health, provide family planning advice, protect reproductive health and provide appropriate referral information,
  • provide advice, assistance and care to women with gynaecological problems,
  • prepare and implement programmes for parenting school and health education for a healthy lifestyle and the avoidance of risk factors for this category of the population,
  • monitor the normal progress of pregnancy and carry out the necessary tests and monitor the state of the foetus using appropriate clinical methods and means,
  • identify a high-risk pregnancy on the basis of appropriate tests and provide advice within own competence: referral to specialists in the case of pathological pregnancy and participation in team-based treatment of the pregnant woman,
  • provide advice and assistance to women during pregnancy, during delivery and in the postpartum period,
  • conduct a normal delivery and perform an episiotomy and provide emergency medical aid during delivery if no doctor is present,
  • recognise pathological changes in mother and child, take action within own competence and refer to specialist,
  • perform examination and care of newborns and infants and take action when necessary,
  • provide advice to women going through menopause,
  • provide midwifery care and treatment prescribed by doctor,
  • keep relevant medical documentation and care documentation,
  • educational work for education and training of own staff and research.

 

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, the candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to enrol in a higher year the student must have completed the previous year with proof of attendance in all subjects, completed all practical exercises and work experience and obtained the appropriate number of credits. For enrolment in the second year at least 54 credits from the first year are needed; for enrolment in the third year 60 credits are needed from the first year and at least 54 from the second year. In order to progress from the first year to the second year the student must have passed examinations in anatomy and physiology with pathology, reproductive health and ethics, and midwifery and midwifery practice 1. In order to progress from the second year to the third year the student must have passed examinations in obstetrics and gynaecology, care of sick children, and midwifery and midwifery practice 2.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

To complete their studies, students must meet all requirements for all compulsory subjects and elective subjects in which they have enrolled and accumulate 180 credits. The final subject of the programme is a final reflection of the course, consisting of a diploma thesis and intervision.
