Admission requirements
  • Graduates of single-subject or two-subject academic bachelor's programmes with a teaching component in the following fields: biology, chemistry, physics, geography, manufacturing and engineering, sociology, philosophy, home economics and general elementary teaching; or
  • graduates of programmes without a teaching component in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, geography, science/engineering programmes, sociology and philosophy who meet conditions in the Republic of Slovenia for teaching subjects from the corresponding fields.

Candidates may enrol directly in the programme if they achieved an average grade of 8 or more in examinations in their undergraduate programme. Otherwise they must have at least two years of relevant work experience, which means that they have already been teaching one of the above subjects for at least two years.

  • Qualification holders have attained professional proficiency and be qualified to teach environmental education; they will have developed environmental consciousness.
  • They are able to undertake project work in various subjects areas on a task related to environmental education issues.
  • They are familiar with the moral dimensions of environmental issues and demonstrate understanding of the interconnection of organisms and the environment and the basic laws governing processes in populations, ecosystems and the ecosphere.
  • They are acquired knowledge from specialist subjects and general teaching subjects and applied them to environmental education; they will be familiar with the historical development of teaching methods in environmental education and related subjects, and with aspirations for further development and possibilities of the inclusion of the latter in the modern teaching process; they will be familiar with the interdisciplinary approach to the planning, provision and evaluation of environmental education instruction at all levels and understand the importance of proper differentiation between educational goals in environmental education instruction in accordance with the physical and psychological characteristics of learners and the needs of society and the natural environment.
  • Qualification holders are capable of showing insight into the development, importance and interlinked nature of psychological factors in the formation of environmental awareness, which serves as a basis for the thoughtful and effective planning of learning situations and materials and for their use and evaluation.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

There are no conditions for enrolment in the second year of the specialisation.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF, level 10)

In order to complete the specialisation, candidates must complete all prescribed course units in compulsory and selected elective subjects and successfully present a project seminar paper on an environmental protection topic and submit it in written form.
