  • Graduates of the Comparative Literature and Literary Theory Department must attain above-average grades (8.5) in examinations in the undergraduate programme and a grade of at least 9 for their bachelor's thesis; or
  • candidates who are not graduates of the Department must pass differential examinations in certain subjects (including linguistic subjects) of the undergraduate programme.

The qualification holders have broadened and deepened their theoretical and historical knowledge, perfected their research methodology and demonstrated their capacity for scientific research. Graduates will also be able to carry out autonomous research at research institutes, higher education institutions and all other institutions where staff with postgraduate qualifications in comparative literature and literary theory are needed.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the individual study programme and successfully defend a master's thesis in public. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
