  • A completed academic study programme in law after the adoption of the Higher Education Act or a successfully completed higher education programme indicated above before adoption of the Higher Education Act and an average grade of at least 8 (very good) in the undergraduate programme or at least two years of work experience following graduation; or
  • a completed undergraduate academic study programme in economics and social sciences (with a grade of at least 8 – very good – or at least two years of work experience following graduation) and before enrolment a successfully passed test of knowledge of the subject EU Law from the academic study programme at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Law.

All candidates must demonstrate active proficiency in English, German or French.

Qualification holders will have mastered knowledge of individual chapters of the institutional and economic law of the EU, with an emphasis on knowledge and understanding of EU legislation and the case law of the European Court of Justice, which represent the foundations of the activities of economic operators in the EU market. They will demonstrate mastery of the general legal rules of the EU and be able to address specific problems in the field of regulating contractual and other economic relationships with an EU element such as establishing an enterprise or branch in other EU Member States. They will also be capable of mastering the rules of competition, the free circulation of goods and capital in the EU internal market and rules regarding public contracts, intellectual property rights, and the monetary and tax system. Graduates will also be familiar with the broader legal and political idea of EU citizenship and the rights of workers and service providers within the internal market of the EU.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed at least 30 credits.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF, level 10) 

In order to complete their studies, students must successfully pass a test of knowledge on the content of 10 (ten) syllabuses of subjects from the curriculum, write four seminar papers and write and successfully defend a master's thesis. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
