Admission requirements
  • A completed academic undergraduate programme with an average grade of very good (8) in geotechnology, mining, geology for civil engineering and chemical technology; candidates who have completed at least two years of work experience in enterprises in the geotechnological (mining) field may enrol in the postgraduate programme even if their average grade is lower, provided they pass an additional examination set by a supervisor; or
  • a completed academic higher education programme in another field; depending on the subjects selected for the postgraduate programme, candidates must also enrol in the necessary subjects from the undergraduate geotechnology (mining) programme in order to make up the deficiencies in their knowledge,
  • active proficiency in at least one world language,
  • fulfilment of the conditions laid down by the postgraduate study programme.

Qualification holders are able to further the scientific development of the field of mining and geoengineering, participate in multidisciplinary groups in order to tackle complex tasks and projects relating to the extraction of mineral raw materials and various interventions in the Earth's crust, including the introduction of environmentally friendly mining technologies, taking into account applicable environmental protection standards, and perform the most demanding tasks in the public administration and public enterprises in the field of mining and geoengineering.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Students may progress to the next year if by the end of the academic year they have completed all requirements defined by the study programme for progression to the next year.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF, level 10) 

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
