If candidates hold a degree in a related field, they must demonstrate by means of an oral examination during the first year that they are familiar with the basic problems of physical, social and regional geography and of the study field in which they intend to develop their specialist knowledge during their studies. |

Qualification holders will be able to undertake independent research and teaching work at research institutes, higher education institutions and other institutions where staff with postgraduate qualifications in geography are needed. Graduates will have deepened and broadened their methodological knowledge and familiarised themselves in greater depth with theory and methodology of geographical research. They will also be capable of addressing concrete scholarly problems.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
Candidates who have completed all course units prescribed by the individual study programme (completed at least 45 credits) may enrol in the next year of the programme.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
In order to complete the programme, students must successfully complete all course units prescribed by the individual study programme (examinations, seminar papers, fieldwork, lab classes). The programme is completed with the successful public defence of the master's thesis. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
