Admission requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a single-subject or two-subject academic higher education programme in fields including philosophy, sociology, history of art, sociology of culture and art, theatre studies, visual anthropology, architecture; from other academic higher education programmes in social sciences or the humanities; or from an equivalent programme at a foreign university; or
  • a bachelor's degree from other academic study programmes or equivalent programmes at foreign universities, if candidates pass differential examinations in the following subjects of the undergraduate programme in Cultural Studies and Anthropology at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Humanities: Philosophical Foundations of the Humanities, Modernity and Postmodernity, Psychoanalysis and Culture, and Transcultural Aesthetics.
Additional conditions for enrolment:
  • an average grade of at least 8.5 in the undergraduate programme, or visible research success in the field of visual culture and art.

Graduates will be familiar with the fields of visual culture in the broadest sense of the word and with various theoretical focuses and cultural trends, in particular in the field of visual culture, which is increasingly becoming not only the globally most present and uniform form of culture, but also the locally most distinctive form. They will also be familiar with the principle modern philosophical and other theories connected with visual culture and visual representation.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Students may enrol in the second year when they have completed first-year course units totalling at least 45 credits. Course units for individual subjects are defined by the syllabuses.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
