Qualification holders are able to carry out research into individual groups of organisms (zoology, botany, microbiology, anthropology), both at the level of the organism (physiology, neuroethology) and at the level of coexistence with the environment (ecology, speleobiology, ecotoxicology, evolution). Research also covers the cellular level (biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics) and the integration of various types of information (bioinformatics). Graduates will also be able to undertake interdisciplinary work and cooperate with other research institutions. Graduates will also have acquired additional knowledge and experience abroad, depending of course on needs and capabilities.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to enrol in the second year, students must have passed examinations in subjects consisting of at least 45 credits. As part of the requirement for 45 credits, supervisors can grant candidates up to 15 credits for research carried out in preparation for their master's thesis (of the total 30 credits allocated to the master's thesis).
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF, level 10)
In order to complete the programme, students must complete all examination requirements under the programme and write and successfully defend a master's thesis. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
