The qualification holder will be able to:
General competences
After students fulfil all the study requirements of the second-cycle study programme History and successfully defend their master’s thesis they are qualified to:
- use scientific research methods in a broad spectrum of problems in changed circumstances;
- undertake autonomous study, develop critical reflection, use their social and communication skills to assess current social and political events, interpret and evaluate political and social phenomena;
- extend their knowledge in specific fields of expertise;
- lead a group and teamwork;
- demonstrate applied interdisciplinary knowledge for working in the field of humanities and culture, the knowledge which distinguish the education of the highest ranking national and international cadres, responsible for human resources management;
- demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics and a capacity for ethical reflection;
- offer an overview of various topics and humanities;
- demonstrate theoretical knowledge and practical application of methodological tools of humanities;
- perform practical work in professional environments;
- continue their education and participate in the lifelong learning programmes.
Subject-specific competences
After students fulfil all the study requirements of the second-cycle study programme History and successfully defend their master’s thesis they are qualified to:
- demonstrate familiarity with key topics of the world history, history of Europe and Slovenia/Slovenian ethnic territory, with a special emphasis on the Mediterranean,
- further develop the knowledge of certain historical contents and combine them in modules which represent a planned acquisition of certain knowledge. This knowledge constitutes the first stage of specialisation;
- work autonomously using historical research and interpretative methods,
- demonstrate knowledge of the types of sources and their characteristics, and autonomously use historical sources for research in the field of historiography,
- master theoretical problems of the discipline and address them,
- perform further research studies individually or in a team, and autonomously explore various issues in more detail.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress to a higher year students must fulfil all the prescribed requirements in the given year (60 credits). Students’ requirements for individual subjects are defined in subject syllabuses.
A conditional enrolment in a higher year is possible when students have accumulated 54 credits 60 credits of credits study programme, where the missing 6 credits must not originate from compulsory subjects.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
When a student completes all obligations of the study programme for obtaining an education (he / she earns 90 ECTS by passing the exams and 30 ECTS by completing the master's thesis), he / she completes the study by defending the master's thesis. Students choose by the end of the winter semester of the first year the topic of a master's thesis and mentor (among habilitated holders of all compulsory or elective history subjects).
