The qualification holder will be able to:

- demonstrate knowledge of and analyse and evaluate findings in sociology and the wider social sciences and humanities fields,
- show insight into contemporary and past sociocultural processes,
- analyse and synthesise information and content from a professional field,
- demonstrate familiarity with and use relevant sources of information,
- demonstrate understanding of and apply methods of work in various organisational structures,
- demonstrate knowledge of and apply research methods in a professional field, both quantitatively and qualitatively,
- demonstrate understanding of and apply organisational measures for their own professional activities and for work as part of a team,
- demonstrate familiarity with and use information technology,
- analyse, synthesise and interpret social science content,
- demonstrate knowledge of and apply mechanisms for resolving conflicts through analysis of social contexts,

- demonstrate basic theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of sociology, the social sciences and the humanities and formulate a theoretical basis for the analysis of social processes, dynamics and changes,

- apply knowledge in the implementation of research projects in the field of social sciences, including the management of such projects,
- analyse and critically evaluate statistical data, carry out complex statistical analyses and apply knowledge in specific working fields,
- critically analyse and develop theoretical views and select and apply them in the context of resolving specific social problems,
- demonstrate interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge of sociology and other fields of the social sciences,
- analyse social development and changes and predict short-term and long-term consequences.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress to the second year, students must complete first-year course units totalling 48 credits.
Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)
Students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme and successfully defend a master's thesis. In this way students complete a total of at least 120 credits.
