Admission requirements
  • A completed first-cycle study programme in relevant professional fields comprising at least 180 ECTS credits (under the Bologna system) or
  • a completed study programme leading to professional higher education qualification or study programme leading to an academic higher education qualification in relevant professional fields (pre-Bologna) or
  • completed equivalent study programmes in other professional fields and complete additional study requirements totalling 10 ECTS credits. The student must complete additional study requirements before defending the master's thesis; missing subjects are specified by the Postgraduate Studies Committee following submission of an application. The following are counted as equivalent study programmes: social sciences, humanities, administration, organisation, economics and business studies.

The qualification holder will be able to:

  • demonstrate a competent response that requires the organisation of physiotherapeutic and other occupational and work-based therapies,
  • formulate a healthy diet taking into account dietetic principles,
  • recognise the need for social work approaches to individual segments within the population (immobile and disabled people, younger and older retirees),
  • prepare a business plan and strategic plan to ensure a secure old age,
  • react ethically to differences in the population,
  • demonstrate familiarity with the structuring, functioning and processing of services and the specifics of service activity,
  • demonstrate knowledge of theories in the field of palliative care,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the basics of the economic laws of the management of various entities working with old people and their competitive environment,
  • demonstrate proficiency in dynamic organisation,
  • put together a dynamic process of free-time occupation, life and care for an elderly person,
  • identify trends in the global system,
  • demonstrate good understanding of processes in old age and different health conditions and a suitable approach to designing services for assistance,
  • identify new technologies, paradigms and philosophies in the treatment of the complexity of concepts of work with the elderly and understand key factors for the development of services in the field of care of the elderly,
  • design new services in the field of care of the elderly,
  • establish socially responsible operation on the basis of ethical rules and the expectations of society,
  • provide advice and carry out research in all fields of care of the elderly.
     

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, the candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must achieve at least 45 ECTS credits from the first year.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

Students must successfully meet all requirements defined by the study programme and prepare and successfully defend a master’s thesis. Students complete their studies when they have accumulated all 120 credits envisaged by the study programme.
