  • A completed first-cycle single-subject academic higher education programme in Chinese studies; or
  • any other completed first-cycle two-subject academic higher education programme under the two-subject Culture of East Asia programme with a lectorship in Chinese language and differential examinations in core Chinese studies subjects totalling 10–40 credits; or
  • any other completed first-cycle academic higher education programme, where depending on the field of the completed programme candidates must pass differential examinations in core Chinese studies subjects totalling 10–60 credits; or
  • any other completed programme leading to a higher professional qualification valid from 1 January 1994 to 11 June 2004, where depending on the field of the completed programme candidates must pass differential examinations in core Chinese studies subjects totalling 10–60 credits.

The qualification holder will be able to:
  • recognise and actively use around 8,000 Chinese characters in both traditional and simplified form,
  • autonomously express themselves orally and in writing at a more complex level and in specialised contexts relating to the selected study stream (cultural studies or social sciences),
  • translate more complex literary, technical and specialist texts from Chinese to Slovene,
  • consecutively interpret from Chinese to Slovene and vice versa,
  • demonstrate proficiency in technical terminology related to the selected study stream.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must have completed 60 credits.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme and subject syllabuses.
