Admission requirements
  • A completed first-cycle study programme in Education science and adult education, Psychology, General elementary teaching, Social pedagogy; or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme or study programme leading to a professional higher education qualification adopted before 2004 in the fields of social sciences, humanities or pre-school education, if the candidate is able to demonstrate knowledge in the following subjects totalling 15 credits: History of education (5 credits), Theory of education (5 credits), Didactics I (5 credits); or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme or study programme leading to a professional higher education qualification adopted before 2004 in other professional fields, if the candidate is able to demonstrate knowledge in the following subjects totalling 40 credits: Pedagogical statistics (5 credits), Pedagogical psychology I (5 credits), History of education (5 credits), Didactics I (5 credits), Theory of education (5 credits), Pedagogical sociology I (5 credits), Comparative pedagogy (5 credits), School pedagogy (5 credits).

The qualification holder will be able to:
  • collect and use data,
  • analyse and synthesise,
  • apply acquired knowledge in practice,
  • demonstrate understanding of the processes of argumentation and testing of scientific theories,
  • think critically and holistically in an interdisciplinary and holistic manner,
  • communicate openly and coordinate different interests,
  • demonstrate openness to alternative views and solutions,
  • work cooperatively and in a group and work independently in a team.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

To progress from the first year to the second year of a study programme, students must complete all course units laid down by the curriculum and individual syllabuses for the first year, totalling 60 credits.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete the study programme, students must complete in full all requirements laid down by the curriculum and individual syllabuses, totalling 120 credits. Students complete their studies with the successful defence of a master's thesis that has been assessed positively.
