Admission requirements
  • A completed first-cycle study programme in the fields of journalism and information science, and social sciences and the humanities (240 credits); or
  • a completed first-cycle programme in another field consisting of 240 credits, if the candidate completes the course units essential for further study, totalling up to 40 credits, in the following 8 subjects: Introduction to Communication Studies, Language Culture I, Introduction to Journalism I, News Reporting I, Basics of Law for Journalists, Journalistic Ethics, Stylistics of News Reporting, and one of the following elective subjects: News Reporting, Radio, or Television; or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme in any field in which the candidate has completed 180 credits if prior to enrolment in the second cycle at the Faculty of Social Sciences he or she has passed examinations totalling 60 credits as part of the Programme for Upgrading Social Sciences-Related Knowledge in subjects selected by agreement with the programme administrator; or
  • a completed four-year professional higher education programme in which students could enrol prior to the introduction of the Bologna reform and could complete by the 2015/2016 academic year at the latest in the fields listed under the first indent; or
  • a completed four-year professional higher education programme in another field in which students could enrol prior to the introduction of the Bologna reform and could complete by the 2015/2016 academic year at the latest, if the candidate has completed the subjects within the Programme for Upgrading Social Sciences-Related Knowledge listed in the second indent; or
  • a completed three-year professional higher education programme in which students could enrol prior to the introduction of the Bologna reform and could complete by the 2015/2016 academic year at the latest; the candidate may enrol in the master's programme under the conditions specified in the third indent.

The qualification holder will be able to:
  • analyse social phenomena,
  • synthesise subject-specific knowledge,
  • express themselves orally and in writing,
  • provide solid argumentation for what they write,
  • use research methods and techniques for studying texts at a more complex level and for analysing and commenting on them.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

Students may progress to the next year if by the end of the academic year they have completed all course units prescribed by the study programme for progression to the next year.

To complete their studies, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme.
